Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of coolness, activated by temperatures below 25°C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and changes in intracellular pH. TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cations (Ca²⁺).
In human tissues, TRPM8 expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate levels in normal prostate and elevated expression in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in non-prostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
