Target Information
Centromeres are differentiated chromosomal domains that determine the mitotic behavior of chromosomes. CENP-A encodes a centromere protein containing a histone H3-related histone fold domain required for centromere targeting. CENP-A is proposed to be part of a modified nucleosome structure, replacing one or both copies of conventional histone H3 in the (H3-H4)₂ tetrameric core of the nucleosome particle.
