Antibody detects endogenous levels of Vimentin only when phosphorylated at Tyr117.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in intracellular transport of proteins between the nucleus and plasma membrane. Unlike other IFPs, vimentin is expressed along with desmin during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs.
Vimentin plays a role in steroid synthesis by acting as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets. Phosphorylation of vimentin by protein kinase leads to filament breakdown and activation of contractile events involving ATP and myosin light chain, facilitating lipid droplet–mitochondria interactions and cholesterol transport, thereby enhancing steroid synthesis.
