Target Information
This gene encodes a protein identified as a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex in the nucleus of human cells. It is broadly expressed and strongly present in many tissues. The protein belongs to a small gene family involved in transcriptional regulation, possibly through chromatin remodeling. It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share domains for DNA binding, dimerization, and methylation-related activity. The gene product targets p53, and deacetylation of p53 correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking this gene family to metastasis.
