MA3-044 detects muscarinic 2 acetylcholine receptor (m2AChR) from human, mouse, pig, and rat tissues.
This antibody does not detect mAChR from chicken tissues and is specific for the m2 mAChR subtype.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunoprecipitation protocols. MA3-044 recognizes an ~52 kDa protein; however, by Western blot, it may detect 60–80 kDa proteins depending on glycosylation levels, representing m2AChR from pig heart.
The antigen used is purified porcine cardiac m2 AChR.

Muscarinic cholinergic receptor 2 (CHRM2) is an acetylcholine receptor that functions as a presynaptic autoreceptor inhibiting acetylcholine release.
M2 receptors mediate smooth muscle contractility and are implicated in neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, where selective loss of M2 subtype receptors occurs in cortical and hippocampal regions.
Increased M2 receptor heterozygosity has been associated with depression in women.
M2 receptors are expressed in various brain regions (cerebellum, cerebral cortex, hippocampus, medulla, striatum, thalamus) as well as in lung and prostate tissues.
