Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 일부 astroglia, 말초신경계의 satellite cell과 non-myelinating Schwann cell에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 사용되며, astrocyte 유래 뇌종양에서도 높은 발현을 보입니다. GFAP는 lens epithelium, 간의 Kupffer cell, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 astrocyte 관련 질환)를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
