Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포와 일부 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 또한 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, 이 단백질에 대한 항체는 성상세포의 표지자로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP이 강하게 발현되며, 렌즈 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 성상세포를 다른 교세포와 구별하는 마커로 활용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 변이는 중추신경계의 드문 성상세포 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 전사체 변이가 존재하며, 각각 다른 아이소폼을 암호화합니다.
