Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). These are cell-surface proteins with four hydrophobic domains that mediate signal transduction involved in cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
This cell surface glycoprotein complexes with integrins and other tetraspanins, participating in cell adhesion and potentially regulating integrin trafficking and function.
It enhances cell motility, invasion, and metastasis in cancer cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encode the same protein.
