ABCC5 단백질은 MRP 하위 계통에 속하며, 다약제 내성과 관련된 수송 기능을 수행합니다. 이 단백질은 cyclic nucleotides의 세포 외 수송에 관여하여 phosphodiesterase의 분해 및 cyclic nucleotide 제거 경로에 기여합니다. 또한 thiopurine 항암제(6-mercaptopurine, thioguanine) 및 항-HIV 약물(9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl)adenine)에 대한 내성을 제공하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 급성 림프구성 백혈병 및 HIV 감염 환자의 항바이러스 뉴클레오시드 유사체 내성과도 관련이 있을 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱이 보고되었으나, 완전한 서열 및 번역 개시 부위는 명확하지 않습니다.
