Antibody detects endogenous levels of Smad5 only when phosphorylated at Ser463/465.
Target Information
SMADs are members of the MAD-related family of molecules. These intracellular proteins are essential components in the signaling pathways of the serine/threonine kinase receptors of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) superfamily.
SMADs are classified into:
- Receptor-regulated SMADs (R-SMADs): SMAD1, 2, 5, 8, and 9
- Common-mediator SMAD (Co-SMAD): SMAD4
- Inhibitory SMADs (I-SMADs): SMAD6 and 7
SMAD1, 5, 8, and 9 share high sequence homology, and antibodies recognizing common sequences are available. SMAD8 and SMAD9 are often used interchangeably in literature.
