MAP3K5 (ASK1)는 세린/트레오닌 키나아제로서 인간 심장과 췌장에서 풍부하게 발현되며, 사이토카인, 성장인자, 환경적 스트레스 등 다양한 자극에 의해 활성화됩니다. ASK1은 MAPKKK5로도 알려져 있으며, MKK4 및 MKK6을 활성화시켜 각각 JNK와 p38 MAP kinase를 활성화합니다. TNFR과 Fas 신호경로에서 TRAF 가족 및 Daxx 단백질과의 상호작용을 통해 활성화되며, 과발현 시 세포자멸사를 유도하고, 비활성형 ASK1은 TNF-α 유도 세포자멸사를 억제합니다. 인간 및 생쥐의 다양한 조직에서 발현됩니다.
