Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromosomal fibers. Two molecules of each core histone (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer, around which approximately 146 bp of DNA is wrapped into nucleosomes. Linker histone H1 binds linker DNA between nucleosomes and aids chromatin compaction. The H4 gene is intronless, encodes a histone H4 family member, and is located within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6. Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element.
