Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 structurally distinct proteins. The S6 ribosomal protein is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It serves as a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring at several C-terminal serine residues (including Ser235/236). Phosphorylation is induced by various stimuli such as growth factors, tumor promoters, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein plays a role in regulating cell growth and proliferation through selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes are dispersed throughout the genome.
