Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, composed of four RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The encoded protein is a cytoplasmic ribosomal protein, part of the 40S subunit, belonging to the S6E family. It serves as a major substrate for ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring at five C-terminal serine residues. Phosphorylation is induced by various stimuli such as growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein may regulate cell growth and proliferation through selective mRNA translation. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
