Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 distinct proteins. The encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal protein is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It serves as a major substrate for multiple protein kinases that phosphorylate five C-terminal serine residues. Phosphorylation is induced by various stimuli such as growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein is implicated in the control of cell growth and proliferation through selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
