Product Specific Information
For reconstitution, add 100 µL of distilled water to obtain a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments, an additional desalting step is recommended (e.g., Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic cell lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain containing numerous O-linked glycans that are heavily sialylated. MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with allelic variations leading to differences in molecular weight due to varying repeat numbers (30–90).
MUC1 is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases. Overexpression, aberrant localization, and altered glycosylation are associated with carcinomas.
The MUC1 gene contains seven exons and produces multiple alternatively spliced variants, some of which have been fully characterized. Transgenic MUC1 has been shown to associate with all four erbB receptors and localize with EGFR in lactating glands.
