Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40–68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns are characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in tumor differential diagnosis (immunohistochemistry), cytopathology, and flow cytometry.
