Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during the maturation of the tight junction complex rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal segment in the extracellular domain, and blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA has been shown to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
