Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Progesterone Receptor only when phosphorylated at Ser79 and Ser81.

Target Information

The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, which plays a central role in reproductive events such as the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy.

PR exists as two main isoforms:

  • PR-A (94 kDa): lacks 165 amino acids at the N-terminus compared to PR-B, exposing an inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.
  • PR-B (120 kDa): the transcriptionally active form responsible for endometrial maintenance, pregnancy, and inhibition of ovulation.

In its inactive state, PR forms a multiprotein complex with heat shock proteins and immunophilins. Upon progesterone binding, a conformational change allows receptor dimerization and binding to progesterone response elements (PRE), leading to gene transcription activation.
A null mutation in the PGR gene can cause reproductive abnormalities.
