Target Information
In skeletal muscle, AQP4 (Aquaporin 4, also known as mercurial-insensitive water channel) localizes to the sarcolemma of fast-twitch muscle fibers.
Aquaporins (AQPs) are integral membrane water transport channel proteins that facilitate water movement across cell membranes. This function is conserved across animals, plants, and bacteria.
Multiple isoforms (AQP0–AQP10) exist in mammals, often co-expressed in the same cell type. While most AQPs are specific to water, AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript are also permeable to urea and glycerol.
