Alpha-1-Antitrypsin (Alpha-1-AT)는 간에서 합성되며, trypsin, elastase, chymotrypsin, collagenase, leucocytic proteases, plasmin, thrombin 등의 protease를 억제하는 역할을 합니다.
Alpha-1-AT 결핍 시 이러한 효소들이 폐 조직을 손상시켜 폐기종 등의 만성 폐질환을 유발할 수 있습니다.
결핍은 유아 간경변 및 신생아의 호흡곤란과도 연관되며, 조직 괴사나 염증 시 급성기 반응으로 Alpha-1-AT 수치가 상승합니다.
류마티스 관절염, 세균 감염, 혈관염, 암 전이 시에도 혈청 수준이 증가합니다.
