Specificity: This antibody detects SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein, but does not cross-react with SARS-CoV or MERS-CoV spike proteins based on internal testing.


Target Information

SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death. The Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the virus. The glycosylated Spike protein can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
The S1 domain contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that binds specifically to ACE2 receptors on target cells. Diversity among coronaviruses is reflected in variations of Spike proteins, influencing receptor interactions and fusion mechanisms.
