Target Information
Barrier-to-autointegration factor 1 (BANF1) is a conserved chromatin protein that non-specifically binds double-stranded DNA. BANF1 interacts with nuclear proteins such as LAP2, emerin, and MAN1. It is a host cell component of retroviral pre-integration complexes (PICs), including HIV, binding to p55 Gag and matrix proteins. BANF1 may contribute to HIV-1 PIC assembly or activity through direct binding to matrix and DNA.
