Target Information
Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic gaseous free radical that mediates various intercellular signals such as vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO production is catalyzed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) enzymes, which convert L-arginine to L-citrulline and NO.
There are three major NOS isoforms:
- nNOS (type I): neuronal or brain NOS
- iNOS (type II): inducible NOS
- eNOS (type III): endothelial NOS
All isoforms contain binding domains for calmodulin, NADPH, FAD, and FMN.
