Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in MAPK cascades that regulate cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, and membrane-dependent depolarization. Phosphorylation at serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1 activates Mek1. It plays roles in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
