Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that plays a key role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing type I interferon (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta) expression and establishing an antiviral state. STING may also have translocon functions, influencing interferon induction and apoptotic signal transduction via MHC-II association. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA and mediates death signaling through ERK pathway activation. STING is generally localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
