Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- For formalin-fixed tissues, heat sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane. Vimentin, along with desmin, is expressed during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs. It plays a role in steroid synthesis by serving as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets. Phosphorylation of vimentin by protein kinase leads to filament breakdown and cytoskeletal reorganization, facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria and enhancing steroid production.
