Product Specific Information
- A 1:1,000 dilution of MA5-45840 was sufficient for detection of Alpha Synuclein in 15 µg of human brain cell lysate by ECL immunoblot using goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
- Binds within the 101–130 aa region of human alpha synuclein, determined using Dot blot and ELISA with corresponding peptides.
- Detects approximately 14 kDa band corresponding to Alpha Synuclein; band at ~40 kDa represents a trimer.
- Does not detect truncated alpha Synuclein (aa 1–114).
Target Information
Alpha-synuclein is a member of the synuclein family, including beta- and gamma-synuclein. These proteins are abundant in the brain and regulate synaptic transmission and membrane trafficking. Alpha- and beta-synuclein selectively inhibit phospholipase D2, suggesting roles in signaling pathways.
Mutations in the SNCA gene, encoding alpha-synuclein, are implicated in Parkinson’s disease. Alpha-synuclein peptides are major components of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
Diseases associated with SNCA include Parkinson Disease 1 (Autosomal Dominant) and Lewy Body Dementia.
