Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature (RT).
- For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, then cool at RT for 20 min.
Target Information
Neuron specific enolase (NSE, ENO1, ENO2, ENO3) is an enzyme involved in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, catalyzing the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate.
NSE exhibits high stability in biological fluids and diffuses easily into extracellular media and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) upon neuronal injury.
- The gamma-subunit is primarily expressed in neurons and neuroendocrine cells.
- Co-expression with chromogranin A is common in neuroendocrine neoplasms.
- Antibodies to NSE are useful for identifying neuronal cell bodies, developing neuronal lineage, and neuroendocrine cells.
- NSE release serves as a biomarker for neuronal injury and is clinically used to assess damage in conditions such as stroke, hypoxic brain injury, status epilepticus, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and herpetic encephalitis.
- Elevated plasma NSE levels are associated with neuroblastoma and small cell lung cancer.
