Target Information

Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and function in mitochondrial protein synthesis.
Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with a protein-to-rRNA ratio of approximately 75%.
Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA.
The MRPS11 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein with high sequence similarity to ribosomal protein S11P family members.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 20, and multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
