Target Information
MST1R (RON) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in cell proliferation and motility. It is a membrane-spanning, disulfide-linked heterodimer derived from a glycosylated precursor cleaved into 35-kD (alpha) and 150-kD (beta) subunits. Ligand binding induces tyrosine phosphorylation of the beta chain. Knockout studies show MST1R/RON (-/-) mice do not survive past the periimplantation period. The MST1R/RON gene is mapped to chromosome 3p21, a region frequently deleted or mutated in small cell lung and renal carcinoma, and is implicated in the progression of several epithelial cancers. Expression of MST1R/RON has been documented in many normal human tissues, including colon, mouth, prostate, and testis, as well as in various cancerous tissues.
