Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD11a (alpha subunit of human LFA-1), a 170–180 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils.

Target Information

CD11a (LFA-1 alpha, ITGAL) together with CD18 constitute leukocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1), the αLβ2 integrin.
CD11a is involved in leukocyte intercellular adhesion through interactions with ICAM-1, -2, and -3 and plays a key role in lymphocyte costimulatory signaling.
It is expressed on leukocytes in a low-affinity conformation, which changes to high-affinity upon stimulation, enabling tight ligand binding.
Blocking CD11a function has therapeutic relevance in inflammatory disease treatment (e.g., Efalizumab).
Two transcript variants encode different isoforms of CD11a, and dysfunctions are associated with benign cephalic histiocytosis and leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
