Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes. It is also expressed by most tissue macrophages. In human, the epitope recognized by MEM-18 is located between amino acids 57–64.
Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It serves as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 interacts with lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) to bind lipopolysaccharides and plays a role in immune response modulation. Soluble CD14 (sCD14) can discriminate structural differences between lipopolysaccharides and contributes to neutralization of serum lipopolysaccharides. CD14 also binds apoptotic cells and is implicated in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform. Diseases associated with CD14 dysfunction include Mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
