Rat anti-mouse F4/80 antibody, clone Cl:A3-1, recognizes the murine F4/80 antigen, an approximately 160 kDa cell surface glycoprotein that is a member of the EGF-TM7 family. This protein shares about 68% amino acid identity with human EMR1 (EGF module-containing mucin-like hormone receptor 1).

Target Information

The F4/80 antigen is a 160 kDa cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the EGF-TM7 family. It shares 68% amino acid identity with human EMR1. Expression of F4/80 varies during macrophage maturation and activation. It is found on mature tissue macrophages such as Kupffer cells, Langerhans cells, microglia, macrophages in the gut lamina propria, peritoneal cavity, lung, thymus, bone marrow stroma, and spleen red pulp.
F4/80 is also expressed on a subset of dendritic cells but absent from macrophages in T cell areas of the spleen and lymph node. Although its ligands and biological functions are not fully defined, studies suggest a role in generating efferent CD8⁺ regulatory T cells.
