Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-2 (ICAM-2) is a 60 kDa surface glycoprotein that promotes adhesion between immune cells and vascular endothelium. It belongs to the Ig-superfamily, containing two immunoglobulin-like extracellular domains, and shares high similarity with the N-terminal domains of ICAM-1 (34% identity). ICAM-2 is broadly distributed on hematopoietic cells and is highly expressed on resting lymphocytes and vascular endothelial cells.

ICAM-2 expression is unaffected by inflammatory cytokines.

Target Information

ICAM-2 is a member of the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family. All ICAM proteins are type I transmembrane glycoproteins with 2–9 immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains and bind to the leukocyte adhesion LFA-1 protein. ICAM-2 may play a role in lymphocyte recirculation by blocking LFA-1-dependent cell adhesion. It mediates adhesive interactions crucial for antigen-specific immune response, NK-cell mediated clearance, and immune surveillance. Several transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
