Target Information
Interleukin 12A (IL-12A) is a signaling cytokine belonging to the Interleukin-6 protein superfamily. It encodes the 35-kDa subunit of the heterodimeric IL-12 cytokine and exhibits diverse biological activities. IL-12A functions as a growth factor for activated T and NK cells, enhances NK cell lytic activity, and stimulates IFN-γ production. It plays a role in Th1 and Th2 cell differentiation and positive regulation of Stat4 phosphorylation. IL-12A signaling in innate immunity requires nitric oxide synthase 2A. Together with EBI3, IL-12A forms interleukin-35 (IL-35), a cytokine produced by Treg cells essential for maximal suppressive activity.
