Product Specific Information

This antibody detects upregulation of HIF-1 alpha in hypoxic samples.

Target Information

HIF1-alpha (HIF1A) is a subunit of HIF1, a transcription factor found in mammalian cells under reduced oxygen tension. HIF-1 is a heterodimer composed of alpha and beta subunits, both belonging to the PAS family of transcription factors.
Under hypoxic conditions, HIF-1 activates transcription of over 40 genes involved in oxygen delivery and metabolic adaptation, including erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, and VEGF.
HIF1-alpha regulates hypoxia-mediated apoptosis, cell proliferation, and tumor angiogenesis. It interacts with p53 and participates in MDM2-mediated ubiquitination under hypoxic conditions.
In humans, HIF1A is located on chromosome 14q. The C-terminal region binds to p300/CBP, forming complexes that induce hypoxia-responsive genes such as VEGF.
Hypoxia plays a key role in diseases such as ischemia, cancer, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease, and COPD.
