This gene belongs to the Cys-Cys (CC) cytokine family, located on the q-arm of chromosome 17.
CC cytokines are secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes, characterized by two adjacent cysteines.
The cytokine encoded by this gene exhibits chemotactic activity for eosinophils but not for mononuclear cells or neutrophils.
It is implicated in eosinophilic inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, asthma, and parasitic infections.
