Isolation Medium for Iron Bacteria
Details
Isolation Medium for Iron Bacteria is recommended for the isolation of iron bacteria, especially those belonging to Sphaerotilus - Leptothrix group. Magnesium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, potassium chloride and calcium nitrate are sources of ions that stimulate metabolism. Glucose acts as the carbon source. Dipotassium phosphate buffers the medium. Agar slants of the media are prepared and test water sample added on to surface of slants. On incubation, growth is observed as turbidity in the liquid layer.
