Target Information
ERN1 (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1) is a serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease that serves as a sensor of unfolded proteins in the ER. It transmits stress signals from the ER to the nucleus by splicing XBP1 mRNA, converting it into an active transcriptional activator for the unfolded protein response. ERN1 is critical for fetal viability and cell survival under ER stress conditions.
