This antibody detects endogenous levels of PKC beta 1 only when phosphorylated at Ser661.
Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and are involved in various cellular signaling pathways. They also act as major receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each PKC family member has a distinct expression profile and cellular role.
The PKC beta isoform is implicated in multiple cellular functions, including:
- B cell activation
- Apoptosis induction
- Endothelial cell proliferation
- Intestinal sugar absorption
Studies in mice suggest roles in neuronal regulation and stress-related behavior. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
