Target Information
Defensins are a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides produced by neutrophils. Members of this family share high sequence similarity. The beta-Defensin 1 gene encodes an antimicrobial peptide that contributes to epithelial resistance against microbial colonization. It is located near defensin alpha 1 and is associated with cystic fibrosis pathogenesis.
