The eBioM3/38 antibody reacts with mouse Galectin-3 (Mac-2).
Galectins are a family of animal lectins with diverse biological functions. Galectin-3 (LGALS3, Mac-2, L-29) is a 30 kDa beta-galactoside-binding protein that binds IgE and mammalian cell surfaces when homodimerized or homo-oligomerized. It is expressed in epithelia, macrophages, dendritic cells, and Kupffer cells, and its expression increases during inflammation, proliferation, differentiation, and viral trans-activation.

This monoclonal antibody eBioM3/38 cross-reacts with human Galectin-3 (LGALS3).

Applications Reported:
Flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, immunoblotting (WB), immunohistology (frozen and paraffin sections), and ELISA.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of mouse PECs (thioglycollate-elicited peritoneal cells) at ≤0.25 µg/test.
A test corresponds to staining in 100 µL final volume (10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).
Optimization by titration is recommended.

Target Information

Galectin-3 is a galactose-specific lectin that binds IgE and may mediate endothelial cell migration via integrin interactions. It cooperates with DMBT1 in epithelial cell differentiation during embryogenesis and acts as a pre-mRNA splicing factor in the nucleus. It is involved in acute inflammatory responses, including neutrophil activation, monocyte/macrophage chemoattraction, apoptotic cell opsonization, and mast cell activation.
