Target Information

DNA-directed RNA polymerase II subunit RPB1 (POLR2A) is a DNA-dependent RNA polymerase that catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates.
POLR2A is the largest subunit and a catalytic component of RNA polymerase II, synthesizing mRNA precursors and non-coding RNAs.
It forms the polymerase active center with the second largest subunit and is central to the basal transcription machinery.
RPB1 contributes to the core element with the central cleft, clamp, and jaws that engage the DNA template.
Phosphorylation of the C-terminal domain (CTD) regulates transcription initiation, elongation, and termination, as well as mRNA processing.
Gene expression levels are influenced by the balance between methylation and acetylation of CTD lysines.
