Target Information
The leucine-rich, glioma inactivated gene 3 (LGI3) is a member of the LGI protein family, where LGI1 serves as the prototype. This family consists of four highly related proteins containing leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) similar to transmembrane signaling molecules and receptors. LGI1 has been identified as a candidate tumor suppressor gene for glioma and is implicated in autosomal dominant lateral temporal epilepsy (ADTLE), characterized by focal seizures with auditory symptoms. Although LGI3 shares high homology and similar expression patterns with LGI1, mutations in LGI3 have not been linked to ADTLE. LGI3 expression is induced in rat astrocyte cultures by amyloid beta (Aβ) peptide and accumulates on neuronal plasma membranes in aged monkey brains, co-localizing with Aβ.
