This antibody recognizes and binds the non-linear/conformational epitope of the N protein of SARS-CoV and also binds the SARS-CoV-2 nucleoprotein.

Target Information

Human coronaviruses are the major cause of upper respiratory tract illness in humans, such as the common cold. Coronaviruses are positive-stranded RNA viruses with large RNA genomes (27–31 kb). The first step in coronavirus infection is binding of the viral spike protein (139 kDa) to receptors on host cells. The spike protein is the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The most prominent protein in the culture supernatants of SARS virus-infected cells is a 46 kDa nucleocapsid protein, suggesting that this protein is a major immunogen useful for early diagnostics. SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein is associated with nucleic acid and is the most abundant coronavirus protein. Due to its strong immunogenicity, it has potential value for diagnostic applications.
