Description:
The 85BRD monoclonal antibody reacts with human interleukin-13 (IL-13). IL-13 (also known as NC30) is a 12.5 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8+ T cells, and NK cells. IL-13 suppresses macrophage cytotoxic activity, upregulates IL-1RA expression, and suppresses inflammatory cytokine expression.

Applications Reported:
This antibody has been reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Pre-diluted and tested by flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00) and protocol.
Recommended use: 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test.
A test is defined as the amount of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 µL.
Cell number should be determined empirically (10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Fluorochrome Information:
eFluor 450 is an alternative to Pacific Blue. It emits at 446 nm and is excited with the violet laser line (405 nm). Ensure the instrument can detect this fluorochrome.

Target Information

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine primarily produced by activated Th2 cells. It regulates inflammatory and immune responses by down-regulating macrophage activity and inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokine production. IL-13 is involved in allergen-induced asthma independent of IgE and eosinophils, regulates B cell maturation, upregulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching.
Structurally, IL-13 resembles IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, and GM-CSF. The genes IL13, IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, with IL13 located near IL4.
