Target Information
Arylsulfatase F (ARSF) is a 590 amino acid secretory protein belonging to the sulfatase family of bone and cartilage matrix proteins. It uses calcium as a cofactor to catalyze reactions essential for maintaining bone composition. Unlike Arylsulfatase E, ARSF activity is not inhibited by warfarin. The ARSF gene is located on human chromosome X, which contains over 1,000 genes and plays a role in sex determination. Abnormalities in sex chromosomes can lead to conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
