Target Information
Arylsulfatase F (ARSF) is a 590 amino acid secretory protein belonging to the sulfatase family of bone and cartilage matrix proteins. It uses calcium as a cofactor to catalyze reactions essential for maintaining bone composition. Unlike other family members such as Arylsulfatase E, its activity is not inhibited by warfarin. The ARSF gene maps to human chromosome X, which contains over 1,000 genes and is involved in sex determination. Abnormalities in sex chromosomes can cause conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
