Target Information

Arylsulfatase F (ARSF) is a 590-amino acid secretory protein belonging to the sulfatase family of bone and cartilage matrix proteins. It uses calcium as a cofactor to catalyze reactions important for maintaining proper bone composition. Unlike other family members such as Arylsulfatase E, its activity is not inhibited by warfarin. The ARSF gene maps to human chromosome X, which spans approximately 153 million base pairs and contains over 1,000 genes. Chromosome X, together with chromosome Y, determines sex and is associated with conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
